Volontariato nella sanità: la nuova mostra di S4C con VITA / HealthCare Volunteering, the new S4C Exhibition

[english version below]

Nonostante tutto.

Health-Care Volunteering: the new S4C Exhibition

Once again, as it always happen in December in Milan (Italy, Shoot4Change stands beside VITA Magazine and engages in a storytelling about the Volunteers Worlds with a  large photo exhibition on the theme of Health-Care  volunteering.
The exhibition, held from December 10th to 23rd in downtown Milan, in Piazza Castello, is made of 16 large images, result of ad hoc assignment to a selection of Shoot4Change photographers who opted – each of them – for a specific story and desease.

All images document therelationship between the volunteer and the patient, portraiting ordinary daily moments in the hospitals, shelters or at home.

A great strength transpires from those images, demonstrating that the “relationship” can really build bridges and help cure the disease.
Those stills are a tribute to those who suffer, those who resist and those who helps to cope with the pain. A tribute also to the families of the patients, often forgotten in the invaluable role.

Shoot4Change is no new to the them (how can we forget the story of our friend Angelo Merendino and the battle against cancer of his wife Jennifer ) and today our applause goes to the photographers who have engaged – in the past weeks – to give a face to the best part of our Country.

So,  big Thank You to Federica Calò, Ivano Iaia, Beatrice Lencioni,  Guillermo Luna, Antonio Marcello, Pippo Onorati,  Andrea Ranalli, Francesco Scirè (coordinated by  Pippo Onorati e myself).

I take this opportunity to raise the voice and send a message to anyone listening up there in the “Governement”: do not take advantage of the best of Italy!

The so called “third sector”, the voluntary non profit sector, is a key resource, an added value to the efforts of national and local Government. It cannot replace them as a whole!

The risk is to get used and take for granted the energy and passion of those volunteers that work “despite all”.  Because, yes , it is true , Italy is the country that goes on “despite everything”. But sooner or later those volunteers, those girls, those boys, those who give their time to help those who otherwise would not be helped by those who should …. well , sooner or later they will cease to do so.
Ours is a tribute to that beautiful part of Italy.

Despite all.

Antonio Amendola
