Facciamoci Compagnia (i senza dimora danno spettacolo a teatro)

A Binario95 i senza dimora danno spettacolo

Nicoletta Di Tanno23.09.2012

In Rome, the Homeless of Binario95 Shelter go live on stage!

(a story by Nicoletta Di Tanno; photos: Adamo Banelli and Nicoletta Di Tanno) Operators, volunteers and homeless people have worked and played together in ‘Facciamoci Compagnia ‘ (‘Let’s keep us Company’), an intense, self-deprecating and fun show where the songs of theater mingled constantly with everyday reality. Because the necessary it’s not enough  Not having a home is a big, big problem. A problem that exposes one person to many difficulties and generates many more.

The aid of social services in these cases is precious: a roof to sleep, a place to wash up;  the  minimum basic dignity. For some people, however, with ideas, feelings, and desires, a home is not just a roof. So, how do you help those who do not have a  homein feeling a person, a community, with skills and passions?  The response is given by Binario95 (with whom S4C partnered many other times), a homeless shelter run by  Europe Consulting Cooperative (non-profit organization), which provides support for homeless in Rome: through art!

Binario95 operators and volunteers have organized a series of workshops, including a theater workshop that produced this show  in which workers, homeless and actors have worked and performed by exchanging the roles and mixing constantly the theater with everyday Life. After many months of hardship, enthusiasm and despair, the gamble has paid yielding a real theater Company; a source of satisfaction for all participants and a great Show that involved, and sometimes overwhelmed, the public.

The commitment of all was great but that of the homeless was even more. To prove, to show their talents, and finally to be able to play Wilde, Pirandello or Shakespeare;  it was  good for the soul, a way to assert themselves. Workers and volunteers have donated Binario95 intelligence, time and heart to support souls in distress. The smiles they got in return were certainly  their greatest reward.
