We’ll be back in New York City with a new super cool Shoot4Minutes event!

We are very proud to announce a new storytelling evening on February 25th, in collaboration with  Soho Photo Gallery and Sponsored by NEWS PHOTOGRAPHER magazine and the National Press Photographers Association.

Shoot4Minutes (S4M) is a meeting point where those who have a story to tell, such as photography projects, documentary work or just a story in a pipeline, meet to share them. This is also an opportunity to meet, mingle and network with other photographers.

Here are the rules!

Photographers will only have 4 minutes (not a second more, not a second less) to say what they have to say and show what they have to show. All mediums of presentations are welcome.

4 minutes can be a very short time. But they can also be enough to leave a suggestion, an idea, the desire to learn more.

4 minutes do not change the World, but they can be useful to put some order in our ideas, to be clear on what we want to say.

It’s a game. And we’ll play as we like to do: having fun very seriously.

Are you able to do it in 4 minutes?

So, be there on February 25th 6-8pm at

Soho photo gallery 15 white street, New York City

This is a story of Lucy, an 83 year old  Puerto Rican woman who has diabetes living in the NYC Projects on the Lower East Side.  It is also a story about her daughter  Esther who is her caretaker, works a full time job and lives with her.  It’s a story about poverty, social class system and demographics.   Lucy came to America in 1946, she worked in a factory and a movie theater on Clinton Street.  Later, she became a community worker and helped inner city youths.  She also helped many people from the Caribbean who came to NYC with finding jobs and housing.  Lucy married a man of Russian Jewish decent from the Lower East Side who was abusive to her and fathered  three of her four children.

Esther’s siblings who also live in New York, all struggle with health and mental disease.   Esther recalls canned soda, fatty processed foods being part of the daily diet for her and her siblings when they were children.  Lucy was diagnosed with diabetes in her early 30s,  a disease that mostly effects the poor in America. This is not just a disease of neglect and excess, but also a disease of the forgotten.

Lucy lives in a very small apartment, which she only leaves for doctors appointments.  She takes 30 pills a day and passes her days watching  old TV shows…

Once again an epidemic rears it’s ugly head on the 13th of July in Sanford Florida.

An epidemic that has insidiously plagued society time and time again with no cure in sight. Six jurors acquitted a man who committed a crime against humanity. A judicial system that is capable of advocating such a crime, is a judicial system that is severely flawed and part of this epidemic.

Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell, Yusef Hawkins, the Bernard Getz victims, Michael Griffith, The Central Park Five, Anthony Ramon Baez and now Trayvon Martin have all fallen due to these crimes against humanity.

The following day, on July 14th, Photographer, Gretchen Robinette took to the streets and documented protesters from New York City who marched in solidarity, in search of answers and a cure for this epidemic.

THE PROTEST :  JULY 14th, 2013/ Gretchen Robinette

The rally started at 6pm in Union Square, during which time a big argument occurred over one woman wearing a “I SUPPORT ZIMMERMAN I LOVE PEACE” tee-shirt , and one man was arrested in the street. A large group marched to Time Square , while hundreds stayed and more came later to Union Square. In Time Square , there was a sit in and a moment of silence for Trayvon , where thousands  gathered and shut down Time Square. Everyone made a general vote to march in solidarity to Harlem. For the most part, the protesters were peaceful. In exception to some  police officers who resorted to using force.
