Today we are extremely excited to present new S4C member August Bradley project “99 FACES”.

August is a commercial and fine art photographer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles.  As a Hasselblad Master, he received numerous Graphis Gold Awards, has been chosen for the PDN Photo Annual and received several IPA “Photographer of the Year Awards” (click here to know more about August)

Our Paths crossed on The New York Times LENS and decided to join forces to keep giving faces and voices to those that are seldom heard and seen (have a look at the brand new S4C project on the Low Resolution Generation and join).

“I pursued this project because the OWS movement seemed like this big mystery. There are no front people, there are no personalities widely identified with it. It’s as if the entire movement was behind a mask. Obviously there are specific people involved, and I was curious about who they were. I don’t ever remember seeing a movement that did not have clearly identifiable personalities associated with it, the mystery of it was intriguing to me.”

“I’m also fascinated with faces, they are endlessly interesting to me. And the idea of telling a story through a series of faces is particularly exciting to me.

Most of my work has been with models and actors that I have transformed to communicate ideas in my head. I have increasingly become excited about discovering unique people, and revealing aspects of people not typically seen. So I have committed to doing more portrait work, hopefully in a penetrating, revealing way — a different kind of look into the eyes.”

In realtà non l’ho fatto e non ho intenzione di farlo, perchè credo di non avere niente di intelligente da dire o da aggiungere rispetto a quello che tutti abbiamo avuto davanti agli occhi. Noi stessi di S4C ci siamo trovati a raccontare episodi con un tono e un registro che non ci appartiene. Speravamo di raccontare tutt’altra giornata e ci siamo ritrovati in trincea.

Quel che possiamo fare, però, è reagire.

A modo nostro.

E’ per questo che vi presento una nuova campagna che abbiamo intitolato “Low Resolution Generation” (guardate il sito appena creato) e che ha lo scopo di fornire una piattaforma di comunicazione a coloro che stanno perdendo visibilità a causa di questa maledetta crisi.

Saranno immagini pixelate…o volutamente fuori fuoco…o a bassa risoluzione….che accompagneranno storie, ordinarie, di chi sta diventando invisibile, con un futuro incerto ed un presente assai precario.

E’ un’immagine assolutamente pericolosa questa. E ci stiamo abituando, nostro malgrado al grido “nonostante tutto”. Un contratto da stagista, per anni!, va bene “nonostante tutto”. 400 euro (pixel!) al mese vanno bene, “nonostante tutto”. Tirare a campare per arrivare a fine mese va bene, “nonostante tutto”.

Una generazione che perde risoluzione, è una generazione che perde di vista il proprio futuro e che prima o poi esplode.

Ci meritiamo maggior definizione per l’immagine della nostra vita; se la meritano quei ragazzi che non sono riusciti a manifestare pacificamente in piazza sabato scorso e che oggi vedono le loro ragioni violentate da quelle, perverse, di un manipolo di delinquenti idioti a volto coperto.

Parliamo tanto di invisibilità sociale, di fantasmi urbani, di senza fissa dimora e rifugiati. Continueremo a raccontarli, perchè si tratta di una delle più grandi vergogne delle nostre società.

Ma qui abbiamo a che fare con una grande fetta di popolazione che sta progressivamen scomparendo! Si sta…pixelando…perde risoluzione…definizione. Futuro. E sta accadendo davanti ai nostri occhi.

Ci date una mano a raccontare quello che sta accadendo?

In fondo, S4C è nata non solo per denunciare eventi negativi ma anche per lanciare messaggi positivi attraverso le proprie immagini.

E quello che vogliamo dire è che aggiungere risoluzione a queste immagini E’ POSSIBILE.

AntonioAI’ve been asked, several times, to comment last October 15th events.

I’ve not done it, because I do not think I have anything intelligent to say or to add to those images we all witnessed.

The only thing we could do to…react…was launching a campaign. We called it “Low Resolution Generation” (check out the brand new website) and will feature portraits (pixelized) of the Faces of those who are severly hit by this damn Crisis…

What is sad about all this is that there’ something terribily wrong in the entire big picture. Our future is slowly fading out. Those large pixels of the images represent the progressive lack of perspective; the lack of hope inthe future.

Sure, a few hundred euros a month (or “pixels”) are better than nothing; sure, having a part time job for years is better than nothing; sure, an intern contract for decades is better than being unemployed.

But we want a higher resolution for our Future. We deserve it. THEY deserve it! All those young who hit the road last October 15th and could not manage to have their voice heard due to those bastards who set Rome on Fire (irony of the location…)

All this talking, all these projects about Social Invisibility, about the urban Ghosts, the homeless, the Refugees, etc…. We’ll surely keep covering that because it’s one the biggest Shame of our Societies but here, today, NOW, there’s a HUGE portion of our society that is slowly going down that road!

And we are just seeing that happen….

Will we achieve something? I do not know.

Shall we try anyway? Of course we shall. After all we were not made to cover only bad things (such as the late incidents) but we’re good in giving our a positive message.

And what we want to say is that adding higher resolution to the Future is POSSIBLE.
