Abbracciamo un’evoluzione storica e il grande corso della storia continua grazie a ciascuno di noi. Ed è un corso orientato verso una maggiore giustizia, una maggiore libertà, ma non la libertà incontrollata della volpe nel pollaio. Questi diritti, promulgati nella Dichiarazione del 1948, sono universali. Se incontrate qualcuno che non ne beneficia abbiatene pietà, aiutatelo a conquistarli”

Tutto è iniziato a Plaza Puerta a Madrid.

I ragazzi spagnoli decisero di farsi portavoce tra la gente di un malcontento, di un senso di precarietà e infelicità davanti al quale il popolo spagnolo non poteva più tacere, condiviso nel nostro come in altri paesi. Ecco perché, a fianco degli spagnoli si sono uniti, fin dal primo giorno, molti italiani.

La protesta, ormai cresciuta, è diventata mondiale grazie anche alla diffusione che ne è stata fatta sui social network, facebook in primis.

Democrazia Reale Ora, lo slogan sotto cui tutti questi gruppi si riconoscono, nasce sulla scia dell’esperienza spagnola, con la quale condividono la modalità di partecipazione: assenza di bandiere, rifiuto della violenza, decisioni prese sulla base del voto di piazza.

Banditi inoltre l’uso di alcol e droga.

Si propone di dar vita ad un ampio movimento che possa veicolare proposte concrete ed inerenti la specifica situazione italiana, nate dall’organizzazione e dalla partecipazione della gente comune. Proposte volte al cambiamento di questo sistema sociale, politico ed economico disumanizzante, non democratico e violento.

L’organizzazione è assolutamente assembleare e democratica, tutte le proposte vengono sottoposte alla piazza e votate, chiunque ha diritto di prendere parola ed è nata l’esigenza di costruire commissioni volte ad approfondire tematiche importanti e delicate, come il precariato, il diritto alla casa, la mancanza di una reale rappresentanza politica e di una vera democrazia partecipata, l’applicazione nei conflitti di una metodologia nonviolenta, è stata subito accolta, tanto che alcune commissioni già hanno cominciato a lavorare.

A Roma, dopo vari spostamenti, dopo la “guerra” avvenuta il 15 ottobre, si è deciso di accamparsi nei pressi di Caracalla.

Queste sono le prime foto di questo gruppo di ragazzi in attesa che qualcosa nel mondo cambi.

Last Saturday, a small group of Malaysians in Kuala Lumpur (about 400 people) gathered at the iconic Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) park to protest against a new Peacefully Assembly Bill proposed by the repressive government. Among the content of the bill is that citizens are not allowed to protest on the streets or within 50 metres of a school, house of worship, hospital or open public spaces.

Notice has to be given to the police 10 days prior to the protest to which an approval is not guaranteed and location of protest is subjected to the approval of the Home Minister. Non citizens and children under 15 years of age are not allowed to protest and any protest prior to approval, the police will fine the organisers MYR 20,000. Although the KLCC management switched on the sprinklers that day, it did not deter any of the protesters and the event went on for about 2 hours before the crowd dispersed peacefully.

The government has bulldozed the bill through the Lower House and despite protests from citizens and the Opposition parties, the ruling government approved the bill within days and now pending approval from the Senate. Citizens will continue their peaceful protests every Saturday through big scale picnics and other fun activities at public spaces by wearing yellow and without the approval of the authority. For your info, Yellow is a colour known to Malaysians as a spin off from the Bersih 2.0 movement demanding for clean and fair election and now a symbol of defiance against senseless laws and saving Malaysia from iron fist rulers.

Malaysia is a multi racial country rich with a mixture of different ethnicity and culture, where everyone lives in tolerance, peace and harmony. Street protests used to be a thing of the past when our forefathers fought for our country’s independence. However, for the past 2 decades, slowly the rights for citizens to openly express their dissatisfaction with the current regime has been taken away and now the public is now calling the government to return the power and rights to the people. Freedom of expression is guaranteed in the country’s Constitution in Article 10.

 Therefore, this bill and the current Police Act is redundant and not consistent with the Constitution.

Citizens are slowly going back to the streets to demand what is rightfully theirs despite of threats and brainwashing by the Government.

We, Malaysians believe that we are a mature society who can protest in peace.

Today we are extremely excited to present new S4C member August Bradley project “99 FACES”.

August is a commercial and fine art photographer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles.  As a Hasselblad Master, he received numerous Graphis Gold Awards, has been chosen for the PDN Photo Annual and received several IPA “Photographer of the Year Awards” (click here to know more about August)

Our Paths crossed on The New York Times LENS and decided to join forces to keep giving faces and voices to those that are seldom heard and seen (have a look at the brand new S4C project on the Low Resolution Generation and join).

“I pursued this project because the OWS movement seemed like this big mystery. There are no front people, there are no personalities widely identified with it. It’s as if the entire movement was behind a mask. Obviously there are specific people involved, and I was curious about who they were. I don’t ever remember seeing a movement that did not have clearly identifiable personalities associated with it, the mystery of it was intriguing to me.”

“I’m also fascinated with faces, they are endlessly interesting to me. And the idea of telling a story through a series of faces is particularly exciting to me.

Most of my work has been with models and actors that I have transformed to communicate ideas in my head. I have increasingly become excited about discovering unique people, and revealing aspects of people not typically seen. So I have committed to doing more portrait work, hopefully in a penetrating, revealing way — a different kind of look into the eyes.”
