In realtà non siamo andati da nessuna parte. Siamo stati sempre qui. Solo, senza il sito.

Come sapete, un maledetto malware ha distrutto il database delle storie degli ultimi anni, rendendo inaccessibile il sito. Siamo riusciti, faticosamente, a ripristinare gran parte della nostra storia ma ci vorrà ancora parecchio tempo per recuperare tutti i contenuti, le foto, le storie, etc.

La cosa, come immaginerete, ci ha colpito in profondità. Ma ovviamente non ci siamo abbattuti.

Oggi torniamo online con un sito - speriamo - migliore, più efficiente e pronto ad essere riempito di tanti contenuti.

Insieme.

Sì, perché adesso la sezione #communityS4C sarà dedicata espressamente alle storie che ci segnalerete e che racconterete.

Avremo, in evidenza, alcune delle storie "principali" (tra cui, nel nostro stile, anche storie minuscole) e anche una sezione video e multimedia.

Troverete già in homepage il link al nostro blog (che nel frattempo era rimasto vivo e vegeto) che riceverà i contributi anche di alcuni rappresentanti dei nostri principali gruppi locali (Messico, Spagna, Ungheria, etc.). Non solo. Sul sito è già da oggi possibile aggregare i loro contenuti nella stessa pagina così (in futuro) da leggere solo le loro storie.

Per quanto possibile, cercheremo di scrivere in diverse lingue ma ci perdonerete, spero, se non sempre riusciremo a farlo.

Siamo tutti volontari. S4C si fonda sul senso più puro del volontariato. Ci lega passione e amicizia. E non sempre abbiamo le risorse e le energie per fare tutto.

Contiamo però su di voi, sulle vostre segnalazioni di disservizi e di mancanze e sui vostri contributi (sia su Twitter che via email).

Sapete come la penso, più saremo e più storie riusciremo a raccontare.

Mi conoscete da tempo ormai. Fin dall'inizio ho strutturato S4C in maniera estremamente flessibile per resistere ai problemi e alle inevitabili contingenze. L'ho lasciato crescere, a volte guidandolo, a volte libero di prendere le direzioni del momento, adeguandosi a Voi più che a me.

Esperimento riuscito? Non lo so. Spesso penso di sì. Siamo riusciti a cambiare tante piccole storie anche solo raccontandole.

Altre volte, in momenti di stanchezza, mi domando se vi sia davvero spazio per un modello che coniuga comunicazione visuale e impegno sociale senza un vero e proprio business model.

E allora rallento ulteriormente (cosa rara e difficile per me!) e mi guardo intorno. Rileggo le nostre storie, i vostri messaggi, i tweet, le foto degli schizzi con cui abbiamo "inventato" la Casa dei Raccontastorie a Roma, le serate trascorse a raccontarne tante - di storie - le vostre email con cui chiedete di lanciare dei gruppi nella vostra città, i riconoscimenti, l'energia, i complimenti, le critiche (quasi sempre giuste e ben accette), i post su Facebook e le chiacchiere infinite.

Leggo i resoconti del Team Mexico in Chiapas a raccontare la salute mentale (guardate oggi in homepage) e le prime storie da S4C Budapest. I progetti di S4C Spagna e l'entusiasmo del gruppo di Ferrara. Penso a quello che farà S4C Roma e quanto sta per arrivare da Palermo. E penso anche al nascente gruppo di Bruxelles.

E ripenso alle battaglie al fianco della NPPA americana per rispettare e promuovere i più alti valori etici del fotogiornalismo.

Penso alle discussioni infinite tra di noi, alle incazzature, alle incomprensioni, a volte alle lacrime ma soprattutto alle pacche sulle spalle, alle pizze insieme e alle lunghe conference call su Skype. Siamo una grande, enorme, famiglia. Penso alle mostre, alle facce, agli autori, agli sbattimenti e ai brindi.

E mi carico come una dinamo.

Perché ancora una volta ho capito che la situazione è sfuggita felicemente di mano. S4C era nato come un blog, è diventato un'associazione non profit e ora sta diventando grande. Sta diventando un vero e proprio movimento. Bello, creativo, tranquillo eppure determinato.

E' proprio vero quello che diceva Galeano. Tanti piccoli uomini, in piccoli posti, che fanno piccole cose, possono cambiare il mondo.

Si, signori, la vignetta di Calvin and Hobbes è più che appropriata oggi, nel giorno della ripartenza.

Probabilmente non siamo andati dove volevamo, ma credo proprio che ci troviamo esattamente dove avevamo bisogno di essere.

Dai, mettetevi comodi. Abbiamo tante storie da raccontare insieme.

Here We Shoot again. We’re back.

Acutally, we did not go anywhere. We were always here. Only, without the site.

As you know, a bad and resilient malware destroyed our database of s4c stories of the recent years, making the site inaccessible. We managed, with difficulty, to restore much of our history, but it will still take a long time to recover all content, photos, stories, etc.

This, as you can imagine, hit us deep. But obviously we did not bend down. So, here we are.

Again.

Today we go online with a website - we hope - better, more efficient and ready to be filled with so much content.

Together.

Yes, because now the # communityS4C section will be dedicated specifically to Your stories.

We will have, in the main homepage section, some featured 'main' stories (including, as in our our style, minuscule stories) and also a video and multimedia section.

You will also find the link to our B4C blog (who had since remained alive and well) that will now receive contributions also from some representatives of our key local groups (Mexico, Spain, Hungary, etc.). But it’s not enough. It is now possible to aggregate their content on the same page as well so to read only their local stories.

Whenever possible, we will try to write in different languages, but you will forgive us, I hope, if we will not always be able to do that.

We are all volunteers.

S4C is based on the purest sense of volunteering. What binds us all is passion, friendship and the will to bring about a real social change by raising awareness on important stories and social issues. But we do not always have the resources and the energy to do everything we would like...

We count on you. Tell us about issues with the new website, loss of contents, missing pages etc.

And submit your ideas, projects and stories ready to be published.

You know what I think. The more we will be, the more stories we can tell.

You know me for some time now. Since the beginning I tried to structure S4C along a very flexible model to withstand the inevitable problems and contingencies. I let it grow, sometimes guiding it, sometimes letting it free to take the directions it chose, adapting to Your requests more than my ideas.

Was it successful? I do not know. Sometimes I think so. We managed to change many small stories even only by telling them.

Other times, in moments of tiredness, I wonder whether there is really any room for a model that combines visual communication and social commitment without a real business model.

And that is the time when I slow down (which is rare and difficult for me!) and look around.

I read our stories, your messages, tweets, photos of the sketches with which we have "invented" the House of the storyteller in Rome, I think of the evenings spent recount many stories, your emails which ask to launch a new groupsain your city, your credits, energy, compliments, criticisms (almost always right and well accepted), Facebook posts and the endless chats.

I read the history of Team Mexico in Chiapas on the field to investigate mental health issues (see today on the homepage) and the first stories from S4C Budapest. The projects coming from S4C Spain and the enthusiasm of the group of Ferrara. I think about what will S4C Rome do soon and what is in the pipeline in Palermo. And I also think about the nascent group of Brussels, Belgium.

And I think of how we stand beside the NPPA for the highest ethical standards of photojournalism. And the public events organized with them.

I think of the endless discussions between us, the rages, the misunderstandings, sometimes the tears, but especially to the pats on the back, along with pizzas and long conference calls on Skype. We are a big, huge, family.

And I get charged as a dynamo.

Because - once again - I realize that things got happily out of control and it’s not up to me to decide anymore.

S4C began as a blog,; it has become a non-profit Organisation, and now it's getting bigger and bigger. It’s not a teen anymore. It's becoming a real movement. Beautiful, creative, quiet yet determined.

It 's true what Galeano said. Many small men, in small places, doing small things, can change the world.

Yes, gentlemen, the banner of Calvin and Hobbes (the image featured in this post) has never been more appropriate than today, when we re-start.

We may not have gone where we intended to. But I think we ended up where we needed to be.

Come on now, make yourself comfortable. We have many stories to tell together.
